Look for the Slice of Blue

You each came into this life experience with states that you determined would enhance, not hinder, your desired experience. The physical traits—whether considered defects by others, or even a dimple or wrinkle in your nose when you smile—were all chosen set points.

These predetermined qualities may still be altered or overcome if that is part of the plan. Like setting out on a mountain hike, you would be disappointed if it were just an easy path from point A to B. What would be the joy of that journey? You wanted challenges—experiences that might show themselves in the form of heartbreaks or malfeasances from those around you.

Yet when living and knowing this—and enjoying life anyway, or even because of your experience—that is the fun. That is the point to be lauded if you so desire, and certainly to be admired and emulated.

All have the ability to heal, overcome, and thrive through and because of adversities. Yet some choose, unknowingly, to remain stuck—or so it seems. You are only as stuck as your willingness to keep staring at where you are, looking down at your feet and berating them for not moving.

The feeling of stuckness may be swept away like the ocean tide—simply by allowing it to do so. Be gentle with yourself. Just take the smallest of steps. That is always the most difficult one, but once it’s taken, the momentum of change flows in your favor.

Move toward what brings you even the slightest feeling of satisfaction—or simply less pain. Gaze upon that which lifts your spirit rather than drags it further down. Choose to move rather than stand in the mire of disappointment.

The sun is always shining, even when covered by clouds. Look for the slice of blue, no matter how small, and it too will expand.
