Embracing the Journey: From Endings to New Beginnings
Period. Dot. Put a pin in it. All symbols of a sense of finality or a stopping point. From there, a breath is taken before moving on. Allow the breath to support the moment, the ending, or the shift. It allows you to gather the momentum for the next step forward.
In some cases, the shift is to the next paragraph or thought or even a new chapter. Finalizing one opens the door for new beginnings. If turned toward the new beginning, the next chapter, a sense of wonderment or “what's next?” Is fueled. It could be that you may want to sit with the period, the end, like a boulder for a time or a breath, of pensive thought to ruminate on the chapter or thought that is past.
Know that each moment is new, all thoughts are memories when hanging on to the finality of the period, end, or last chapter. Instead, turn wide-eyed and with renewed vigor of hopeful anticipation of what comes next. Does the character win out? Is there adventure awaiting? You're the author and decide the outcome. Rather than focusing on the last chapter or the outcome, focus on the very next word, paragraph, or scene. Build each scene, story, character for the rich fullness of the entire novel adventure. It all awaits. Relish every letter, word, and put an exclamation point liberally just for the fun of it.
You're the author of your book of life.
