Your First Inspired Step

Many paths appear before you before each footfall. It doesn’t matter which you begin on, only that you begin. Climbing a mountain may have many different routes to embark upon, but until the first step is made, no amount of preparation or gear or planning puts you on the trail to begin making the next informed decision or step—informed by your senses, by your instincts, by the paths and footholds that open up as you ascend.

When climbing a mountain or any terrain that has not been traversed yet—or that not many have embarked upon—there may be few external clues left by others. But your internal cues, the paths and signposts, will appear from the sheer act of doing the inspired step of just getting on the mountain.

The preparation is nice, but going where none have gone before—it may become sheer baggage that is dropped as you go. The good intentions and guidance from those that have studied the mountain but not climbed it themselves may be useful, but truly, may become a weight and burden rather than a tool for ascension.

Lay down what is not needed—it is always there when needed—and trust that every grip of a branch needed, every stone, will be perfectly placed for your own ascent to the top of your peak. And know that when you’ve reached the top, there will be more. After you’ve wandered and explored in the land of beauty and animated delights, another base of a mountain or challenge will appear that will draw your curiosity. It will be easier, as you know what is needed, and you’re always cared for and protected.

Enjoy where you are, when you’re there. And when it is time for the next step toward ever-ascending and glorious vistas, the steps will appear. Choose what lights you up, what brings joy and interest—always. No matter, because it doesn’t…
