Rhythm of Wonder

Putting man-made constraints on your experiences in the way of time often alters your enjoyment of them. Currents flow with a natural rhythm, equidistant from the center point. Each has a distinctive and unique feel that it carries, and when cut short or stilted, the fullness of the experience is missed.

Like the icing on a cake—or even the peaks of the icing—the complete experience of the bite is different, even though all the components are present and accounted for. The texture and visual presentation create a modified rhythm. You may not notice this when rushing or glossing over the moment.

Pay attention to each action. Look at it with wonder, as though it is the first time. Although routines may save what you call time, they are routines—worn pathways requiring little attention. They free focus for new and unformed paths, but you may miss the simple pleasure of the familiar.

Continue down worn paths if they serve you, but appreciate and thank them always by acknowledging what they offer. In this way, the experience is not lost, and the rhythm flows uninterrupted.

All is working in your benefit. Like adding instruments to a symphony, new experiences require care to blend with the rest. Welcome them while still appreciating and thanking the original notes. This is the way of growth—expanding your repertoire and reach.

Acknowledgment of the build, the beauty, and the contribution is key. All are important: the shiny new additions and the original, worn, and tried. Trusting and appreciating both enhances the melodies of your life beyond what you can now comprehend.
