Listening to Your Body: The Importance of Self-Regulation and Awareness
Noticing and feeling into your neutral body state, when you feel good and relaxed, is important so that when you experience anything other than that, you will understand your body is sending you signals. Signals that can be heeded to make a change. If ignored, the body will continue but in a more forceful or clearer way to get your attention.
Overworked? If you don’t listen to your body’s signals, you will become ill or something will slow you down to get the required rest. If you notice on your own and pay attention, you can self-regulate to remain in the desired condition. Better than any machine invented, the body has its own self-functioning system of not only guidance, like radar with your emotions, but also self-regulating physiological functions. If they are not heeded, it is like warning lights on your vehicle that you choose to ignore. There will be consequences of some sort. Some are more costly to repair than others, just like your body.
Tune into your body; heed the signals and warning signs. You are meant to feel good always, and if you don’t, it is a signal. Use your body’s internal guidance system rather than relying on external sources to tell you what your body knows innately. Get to your neutral state by breathing deeply, allowing your body to settle without your conscious mind interfering. Make small adjustments often to get to a better feeling place incrementally. Check in, as you would glance at your dashboard. Adjust, then continue on your journey.
