The Thrill of Aligning

The excitement of the desire coming to you is even more thrilling than the actual attainment of that desire. Whether it’s a car in your garage or the anticipation of a child thinking about the candy in the store or the bike ride to get it, the build-up—the crescendo—is all leading to that high point, that ultimate moment of receiving. But once it’s in your garage, once the candy is in the bag or in your mouth, the anticipation is complete, and the excitement shifts to the next desire to build, create, or find.

It doesn’t matter if it’s the car, the book, or the concerto you are creating; they are all enjoyable in the dreaming, the planning, and the movement toward them. Once it’s there, it’s good until it’s not. The pleasure lies in the wanting—the getting in alignment with your true self. It’s like an arrow that aligns and is carried through the winds of change, unknown as to how it works, but certain it will arrive at the target.

Consider the build-up of excitement when a ball finds the hole in golf. Once it’s there, there’s a celebratory moment, and then it’s off to the next hole, the next course, the next adventure. Every putt, drive, and selection of the club is part of the game; it’s not just about landing the ball in the hole. If that were the case, you would simply drop it in and move on.

Enjoy the game, the swing of the club, the movement of your body, and the interaction with others. Your course is never-ending, with respites along the way, diversions, and sand traps—all there to make the game more interesting and to hone your skills. It’s all for fun, all for you. You are the eagle in flight, the player, the course. Enjoy it all.
