Peaks and Valleys
Like icing on a cake, the swirls and twirls—or dips and valleys—of the icing are patterns formed when the tip of the blade gives impression or pressure to the surface of what was once smooth. It can be seen as musical, like the rise and fall of vibrations carried from a drum or vocal cords. There are peaks and valleys in all.
At times, you’ll be at the peak—the apex of a vibration—with your arms raised and a clear viewpoint, unencumbered by the next wave surfacing. But at other points, you’ll be on the downward slope, seeing only what is right in front of you, like descending a hill.
Not to worry. You will glide across the surface like a skier on the slopes, giving you the momentum to rise again to the top.
One view is not better than the other, but each offers glimpses of what’s to come. Those moments at the apex give you the desire to continue on—to put your head down and forge ahead—knowing there is more to come, more to see, more to experience.
That’s not to say you won’t enjoy the downward cycle—you may—but knowing that you are headed toward that which you desire, that which you glimpsed from the peak, is always dangling in the distance. That knowing allows you to enjoy the dips without lingering in them.
Those dips may offer time for rest, for rejuvenation. You may not always have the ability—or sustainability—to go into valleys of depth or duration. So you may build a bridge to minimize the valleys, if that is your wish.
Bridge to the next with breath, allowing yourself to skip or bypass some valleys—to glide from one peak to another on a gradual incline. You may still experience the valleys from a different viewpoint, and descend only when you desire the depth of an experience.
Your journey, your choice.
You are prepared either way.
Your destination is never complete—new horizons are created just before you arrive, as you are creating them with your thoughts, hopes, and desires. The path is never-ending and satisfying.
Enjoy it all: the peaks and valleys, the rise and fall.
It is all the sweetness, the icing of life.
