Navigating your Thought Patterns: Choosing your Direction in Life

A roundabout is designed to keep traffic flowing and reduce buildup. Your thought patterns work in the same way as traffic flow. There are often-used paths that lead to the same or similar conclusions—thought patterns that you’ve repeated over and over. These become your most used routes.

Sometimes, however, although the offshoots are offered to you, you may stay on the circular pattern and never make a conscious choice to move off in any direction. You find yourself spinning round and round, seeing some things change only as different energies of people, places, and things come and go. Rather than getting stuck on the merry-go-round, you may decide to shoot off in a direction without knowing if it’s leading you to where you want to go. If you have a desired destination, you can go in the general direction, enjoying the route along the way while still arriving at the destination. Alternatively, you may choose to be direct and rigid, following the well-worn path that has gone before—the set path or route.

Which feels better to you? Are you in an off-road vehicle to explore, or are you in a standard vehicle that enjoys the same old, same old? Neither is right or wrong—just don’t be indifferent. Staying on the roundabout or spinning your wheels is indifference. Make your moments count. Do what you want. Go where you desire, or at least in the direction of it. If what you are doing is not feeding into or nourishing where you want to be, make a change.

Your energy flows where your attention goes. Make sure it is flowing in the direction of your desired destination. There is no final destination until you depart, so enjoy all the stops along the way.
